Sofia is the granddaughter of well-known American graphic designer and Professor Emeritus Raymond Morales and the daughter of James and Reina (Morales) Detjen. She has two older brothers, Elliott, who also attends Harvard University, and Danny, who attends the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he swims for the NCAA Division I (D-I) Air Force Falcons.

She enjoys rowing, high-intensity cardio, and strength training. In 2023, she was recognized as a 2022-23 Deseret News/UHSAA Academic All-State for 6A Girls Cross Country and has maintained, since age 16, an impressive rowing 2000-meter erg at the top of the Orangetheory Fitness® regional leaderboard for the 18-29 age bracket comprised of more than 1,500 female athletes.
